Reading by Design at the Fairfax County Public Library

Eagles learned all about the Reading by Design Summer Reading Adventure that begins tomorrow, June 23,  otherwise known as THE LAST DAY OF SCHOOL! Eagles may sign up at the George Mason Library or any FCPL branch. Be sure to say hi to Ms. V when you are there! There is even an online sign-up! Take a Summer Reading Adventure!

Braddock Eagles have been working hard over the past several weeks – taking various end-of-the-year assessments and finishing projects. On top of that, students are still learning, reading, and having fun at Braddock Elementary. It is hard to believe that summer will be here in just a few weeks!

The BES Library wishes a summer full of family, friends, and fun for all our wonderful students. Hopefully reading will be a big part of everybody’s summer plans. After all, reading is the easiest, quickest, and most fun way to keep student brains ready for the next learning adventure at school! Here is the Summer Reading Adventure pack to help keep Braddock Eagle brains healthy, happy, and learning all summer long!

Summer Reading at Braddock Elementary School!

IMG_2690Braddock Eagles welcomed Carey Hagan, one of the children’s librarians at George Mason Regional Library, with open arms. Mrs. Hagan shared so many amazing books this morning and got everyone excited about reading great books for the Summer Reading Challenge! Mrs. Hagan was so impressed by all the students she met – what nice manners, what great listeners, and how enthusiastic Braddock Eagles were about books. Wow! Thank you for being an amazing audience and for making Mrs. Hagan feel welcome!

Remember you can visit Mrs. Hagan and all the wonderful librarians at the George Mason Regional Library. Don’t forget, they are there to assist you and they would love to help you find the perfect book or to put you on the wait list for a title you want to read. Remember that books you read from the George Mason library also count towards the Book Your Summer reading program from FCPS. Be sure to list your titles and score a READ! on your READ! Card.

Summer Reading!

sunStudies have repeatedly shown that children are in danger of losing reading skills over summer vacation. This is known as “summer slide” and can account for a big loss in reading skills all the way to the end of high school. When kids choose books they want to read and talk to their families about what they are reading, their summer reading levels can rise and prevent summer slide.

We want to encourage all students to establish and maintain a habit of reading throughout the summer.

  • Book Your Summer – similar to a Bingo game, rising 1st through 12th grade students are encouraged to spend the summer reading using the READ! activity card as a guide. This program is sponsored by Fairfax County Public Schools.

readforthewin (1)Stop Summer Slide & Win Awesome Prizes!
